Before I discuss all the yummy food we ate at Ted’s Montana Grill, I wanted to address one change you may have noticed. Our blog has a new look!
Shawna and I created a new blog logo and site design. We are in love with the new look and hope that you like it too. You will see the changes everywhere including our Facebook and Twitter pages. Go check them out!
——————————————————————————————————————–Now, back to the Tiny Diner Series and our trip to Ted’s Montana Grill.
My husband and I really love this restaurant. Not only is the food good, but it brings back happy memories of our old life in Atlanta, Georgia as it was started by one of the city’s famous residents, Ted Turner. At this restaurant I can get some of my southern favorites including squash casserole and mac n’ cheese and when I order a sweet tea, no one looks at me strangely. We love it and I was completely on board with grabbing dinner there when my husband suggested it. But, I wondered, is this place able to handle twin toddlers?
The restaurant is located in the Promenade Shoppes at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, Connecticut.
We arrived around 4:45 on a Friday afternoon and were happy to find that the dinner crowd had not yet arrived. We saw a big stack of high chairs near the waiting area and I took that as a great sign.
We were seated quickly and Bruiser and Sparkles settled into their high chairs at the table. The person seating us gave them each a little activity packet to play with. At first, I thought it was crayons and a coloring page, but that wasn’t the case. It was actually an activity page and these sticky colorful sticks that they could mold into different shapes. They were certainly entertained for a bit with these items.
The waitress came by and we placed our drink orders. Sweet tea for me (of course)! Milk for the twins and it arrived in cups with lids, perfect.
We looked over the menu to figure out what we wanted to eat. This restaurant is actually well-known for their Bison burgers which are delicious. I was in the mood for a regular burger, though, and some of that yummy squash casserole. My husband got a steak and we got the kids some mac n’ cheese with a side of squash casserole. They offer a kids menu which comes with a side and a drink.
I got a picture of our two meals, but the kids had already dug into theirs before I remembered to get a shot. So that explains the mess!
They created a nice little mess eating mac n’ cheese with their hands, but the waitress didn’t mention a thing. She only returned often to see if there was anything else we needed. I think the constant response was, “more sweet tea, please” {yes, I’m addicted}.
About half-way through our meal, the kids started to get a little restless. We decided to give them a quick break. I would take one to the restroom for a diaper change and my husband would let the other do a quick walking tour around the restaurant to stretch their legs. Then switch.
I was happy to find that the restrooms were equipped with a diaper changing station.
After our break was over, we headed back to the table to finish up dinner. We probably had about 15 minutes before they would get restless again. It was enough time to finish up and get ourselves packed up to go home.
Good meal + minimal kid stress = a happy mommy

Hints & Tips:
- Click here to view the Ted’s Montana Grill menu which includes the kids menu.
- All kid’s meals come with a side and a drink.
- There is some room up front to stash a stroller. If you must, bring one that folds up compactly.
- Go early if you can. The restaurant was not too crowded from 4:45 – 5:45 when we were there. A crowd was starting to arrive as we were leaving.
- Given that the restaurant is located in a nice shopping area, it might be fun, especially in the warmer months, to take a stroll with the family after dinner. You could do a little window shopping or real shopping and maybe grab a milkshake from Johnny Rockets, some ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery or some froyo from Pinkberry {opening soon}.
Coming Up:
Come back on Thursday when Shawna will be wrapping up the month with the February Roundup.

I know! I actually feel like the restaurant is a little taste of Atlanta when I am needing a Southern fix 🙂
