School is in, leaves are changing, and super market aisles are filling up fast with bright bags of Halloween candy. Yup. It’s officially Fall in New England. But before we run full-speed into the long holiday season ahead, let’s take a minute to look back at how we spent the last month of summer.
HIDDEN GEMS:
Mandy stumbled upon two unexpected opportunities for family fun when she found a playground sandwiched in a parking lot and a zoo literally in the middle of a city. Walter’s Boundless Playground at The Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton transforms a morning of errands into a fun outing for the wee ones.
And who ever thought they’d see a sea lion show with a towering skyline as the backdrop??? At NYC’s Central Park Zoo, there’s an oasis of family-friendly fun when you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city.
The Boston Children’s Museum may not be “hidden” exactly, but it is a new find for many Connecticut families. This month, Mandy and her crew showed us that it is definitely worth the trip to our neighboring state to visit this unique destination.
A TASTE OF FALL:
It wouldn’t be Fall without a trip to the apple orchard, so we scoped out a new picking place this year: Belltown Hill Orchards in Glastonbury. A fun wagon ride, easy picking, and a full snack bar–including the quintessential apple fritters–make this a very family-friendly PYO outing.
And nothing says Fall quite like a trip to the farm, so Mandy and her crew headed out to Fish Family Farm in Bolton for fresh milk, tasty ice cream, and a self-guided barn tour with lots of friendly animals. It’s the perfect laid-back activity for a gorgeous Fall day.
HEALTH & WELLNESS:
At the start of the month we welcomed guest poster, Brenda Holian, owner of the new Baby Boot Camp location in Connecticut. She gave us an inside look at her stroller fitness classes, which encourage new and expecting mommies to take care of themselves while bonding with their babies in this unique fitness program. She’s even offering a special discount to OAAM readers!
Then, to support Car Seat Safety Week, we brought you all the details on the amazing South Windsor Police Car Seat Check-up. This FREE weekly event is open to ALL Connecticut residents and provides a comprehensive car seat installation service.
We also have an important milestone to share…
This month, we surpassed 50,000 total pageviews for our little blog. To us, that seemed like a pretty big deal. And we wanted to send out a mega (bloks) “thank you” to all our readers for continuing to support us as we seek out new, fun, family-friendly places that we can all enjoy.
We wouldn’t have made it this far without you!
We hope you enjoyed visiting these places with us in September, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve got in store for October! And as always, if you have an idea for an outing we need to scout, please end us an email at outandaboutmom@gmail.com or leave a comment below. We’d love to hear from you!
