So another month has passed and the Out and About Mom team has been on another group of fun adventures. Buuuuut before I give you a rundown on all of the places we explored in July, let me tell you about what is turning out to be the biggest and best adventure of the month for my blogging bestie . . .
On Monday, July 29th, Shawna welcomed her second little boy into the world!!!!
I am soooo excited for Shawna, her hubby and Boo and am dying to meet this cute munchkin. I promise to share pictures tomorrow. He is so adorable!
But enough of the baby talk before I start wanting a fourth! Let me just go ahead and get you caught up on all our other (much less important, but possibly entertaining) happenings this month.
—————————–
Our first stop was a somewhat simple outing. Bruiser, Sparkles and Sweetheart went from oohing and aahing over the buses they saw around town to actually riding on one. It may not sound like much, but to my little ones, their City Bus Ride was a major adventure.
Then the whole OAAM crew got together for one last hurrah before our newest member arrived. We took the kids to see a New Britain Rock Cats game. I wasn’t sure how 3 two-year-olds, a baby and a very pregnant friend would do at this night-time event, but there were enough activities, food, excitement, and cool weather to keep everyone entertained and happy.
Then Shawna somehow found time in her third trimester of pregnancy to take a trip to the PEZ Visitors Center located in Orange, CT. Well maybe she had an ulterior motive. An air-conditioned building and tons of sweet treats combined with an entertained toddler, sounds like a good pregnancy outing to me.
Then, the beach-loving girl that I am, got a chance to check out Jennings Beach and Sandcastle Playground in Fairfield, Connecticut.
And we even found time to work in an old post in our new Throwback Thursday series. Our most recent “throwback” had us reminiscing about a beach day at Hammonasset State Park. Not only did I enjoy looking at pictures of the twins from when they were 6 months old, but it was neat to re-share our first-ever blog post! (That reminds me, our two-year anniversary is right around the corner!)
{Pssst – Want more beach adventure ideas? Check out our other beach posts here. You can also put together a whole week of beach-themed activities to combine with your outing by checking out our friend’s Summer Camp Series.}
But we didn’t just visit beaches this month, we also made our way back to Essex to check out the Essex Riverboat and Steam Train’s latest event, The Valley Railroad Circus Train & Big Top Show. I was amazed by the circus performers and my kids were amazed that they got to ride the same carnival ride 1 million times. (I may possibly be exaggerating. There’s a small chance.)
Oh and it just isn’t summer without a lobster roll, right? And this month I finally got a chance to document our trip to Dad’s Restaurant in Niantic, CT and my first taste of summer. Yum! We ate here after our strawberry picking outing at Scott’s Yankee Farmer in East Lyme, but this would also be a convenient lunch destination after a trip to the neighboring Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut.
Then last, but not least, Shawna gave us a tour of Bodie’s Place Playground in Milford, CT. With the beautiful weather we are experiencing right now, playgrounds are back on my list of go-to destinations. Plus, I love checking out any playground that is fully fenced-in!
