Last week Bruiser and Sparkles started school.
What? I know. How can these little munchkins be old enough to be heading to school?
Well, it is a little early. They don’t technically qualify for a 3’s program until next fall, but there is a program in town that accepts kids at 2 1/2 years old. So I signed them up.
A little break from Mommy is good for them and GREAT for me 🙂
True to their personalities, Sparkles was happy to pose for her first day of school pictures and Bruiser wanted no part of the photograph session. I had to catch him on the move.

I am so glad you posted about this. This is the biggest source of vexation for me…I know nothing and everyone I’ve asked answers in such a vague you already know this way, except I don’t. When do kids go to school? Is this just so you can get a break like you said or do they really need a 2 1/2 or 3’s program? LOL How do you find out about this stuff?

Dawn – I know! The whole preschool process can feel complicated, right? I am reading your comment as I am literally putting together a spreadsheet with preschool information for my little ones. To attempt to answer your question, I think most preschool programs start at age 3, but the cutoff is usually that they need to turn 3 by December 31st. My twins don’t qualify for a 3’s program until next Fall. Some schools also offer a 2’s program if you are looking to start even earlier. Hope that helps!

You started them in a 2 program this late? I have been looking for something for my 27 month old and every placed I have called has said that they are full and started in September. Are they enrolled in preschool program or is it a daycare. I was really hoping to find a preschool (2-3 hours a couple of times a week) for my little one.
I was pregnant with baby #2 this summer and thought that I would be able to put the toddler in a program, but by the time I got around to it it was already too late (mid-September). I learned my lesson and have already visited a couple of preschool for next year since they are already accepting applications, but if possible I’d really like him to get a little exposure this year. A little bit of school and little kiddies his age and so much Mommy!
Can you email me and let me know if you visited any schools or know of any that accept 2 year olds in West Hartford or the surrounding towns? Thanks!
(By the way- love your blog- such a great idea and always full of new stuff to do with the kiddies!)

Anastasia – Hi! Sounds like we are in the same boat trying to navigate the world of preschools. Who knew it could be so complicated! I will send you an email with what I am doing with my kiddos. The program they are in runs for 10 weeks every 6 months which is why they started late in the school year. Thanks, also, for your sweet comment about our blog! Means a lot.
