Today we’re continuing our Throwback Thursday series with a look back at a few of our best adventures. As the leaf-peeping season winds down, we thought we’d suggest a few of our favorite day trips that let you enjoy the beautiful views along the way as much as the great destinations. Getting there really is half the fun!
Head South: Hanging out in New Haven, CT. First, let’s take trip back in time to 2011 when hubby, Boo, and I set out to explore my old college stomping grounds in New Haven with a visit to the Peabody Museum of Natural History (BTW-if you happen to be a Lutz Children’s Museum member, you will get into the Peabody for FREE and vice-versa), a pilgrimage to my all-time favorite place to grab a super sandwich, a picnic in the park (plus a playground!) and a stop at Ikea (read our post on that destination here) to pick up items for my latest home decorating project.
Head West: Exploring New Milford, CT. Looking for something less structured? Follow along with Mandy and her crew as they head out to New Milford where they find charming scenery, good food, and a fabulous playground.
Head East: Puttering around in Putnam, CT. Like to shop? Like to eat? Then Putnam is the perfect place. Take a tour with me as I show you blocks lined with antique stores plus some really delicious restaurants and coffee shops. There’s also a beautiful river trail and park where you can just enjoy the great outdoors.
Get Outta Town: Over the border to Providence, RI. My native town has tons of activities to keep the family entertained for the whole day. Check out my visit to the Providence Children’s Museum in downtown Providence (don’t forget to use your reciprocal CT museum membership to get discount or free admission; click here to read more about reciprocal museum memberships) or follow along as I revisit one of my childhood haunts, Roger Williams Park with its fantastic Zoo, classic Carousel, and fun Boundless Playground. Like to shop? Tack on a stop at the Providence Place Mall. You can even experience the last Waterfire event of the season in early November.
Happy trails!
