Happy Halloween!
I hope your little ones are having a fun day dressing up in their favorite costumes and getting ready for a night of trick-or-treating. We will be enjoying the holiday ourselves {which is why I need to hurry up and get this post done!}. My little munchkins need to get to work collecting some yummy candy for me, I mean themselves 🙂
Lucky for me (and lucky for you) today’s post is just a fun look back at all the adventures we had over the last month.
Fall Finds
We had a great time visiting a few new fall-themed destinations this month. While many of them are wrapping up for the season, a few still have events going on through this weekend.
Brown’s Harvest, located in Windsor, Connecticut was a fun discovery this fall. If you didn’t get a chance to go this season, the good news is they are remaining open through this weekend! Their 5-acre maze, along with the children’s maze, play area, hayrides and a variety of other activities will have their last weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday (November 2nd and 3rd).
You can’t begin to think about Halloween without thinking about pumpkins and Pumpkintown USA in East Hampton, Connecticut has that market covered. Like the name states, this place is full of pumpkins, pumpkins and more pumpkins. They have literally created a town of pumpkin people that you can explore, plus there are activities for the kids, food for sale and a tractor-pulled wagon ride. The event is over for the season, but they are having their annual Halloween Party and Parade this afternoon starting at 3:30pm. Probably a bit of late notice, but I thought I would throw it out there just in case.
Plus this month both Shawna and I posted a handy-dandy list of Halloween and Fall activities in the area. Some events will continue through the next couple of days, but most are over for the season. No worries, check out all of the fun and start planning for next year!
And my mouth is still watering from the delicious apple fritters I enjoyed at the Southington Apple Harvest Festival earlier this month. I can’t believe I have to wait a whole year to taste them again. I will certainly be back!
Magnificent Museums
This month we also added two new museums to our ever-growing list. One is a fairly new children’s museum and the other was a special exhibit at a well-established destination.
We were excited to received an invitation this month to KidsPlay Children’s Museum located right in downtown Torrington. Loaded with activities for the little ones, this museum had so much to offer. Plus I was happy to learn that they just became members of the Association of Children’s Museums Reciprocal Program. This means they will now offer 50% off of admission if you are a member of another children’s museum that is part of the same program. They are also offering their own membership options. Get all the details here.
Then Shawna got a chance to visit the Florence Griswold Museum’s annual exhibit, the Wee Faerie Village. Located in Old Lyme, Connecticut, the theme for this year’s exhibit was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The event runs through November 3rd so there is still time for a visit!
Fenced-in Fun
Shawna and I are always on the lookout for our favorite type of playground, the fenced-in kind. It is just so much easier to be at a playground with multiple little ones when you don’t have to worry about tending to one kiddo and the other one (or two) decide to make a break for it while you are busy. Apparently our readers are pretty fond of fenced-in playgrounds as well because they have become a popular post type on our site. This month we had the pleasure of visiting two fenced-in play destinations.
First up is Simsbury Farms Playground located in (surprise, surprise) Simsbury, Connecticut. This playground has both a large and small playscape along with a covered seating area. The playground also has swings, but they aren’t within the fenced-in area.
Then Shawna took a trip to Southington, Connecticut to visit the Rainbow Playground in Panthorn Park. This boundless playground also had two playscapes and a covered sitting area. Plus its sandbox and swings were a nice bonus for her playground-loving youngster.
New Destinations
This month’s Throwback Thursday post was a fun tour of a few of our Out and About Mom day trips. Take a look at the post and get inspired for your next family outing! In the words of Dalai Lama,
“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.”
