These days, Sparkles is in love with all things dance and especially all things ballet.
That is why I was excited to find out that our local community center, The Elmwood Community Center, was offering an event called The Nutcracker “Sweets” where little ones would have a chance to get a taste of The Nutcracker Ballet without having to sit through the whole performance. I just don’t think my two-year old is quite ready for a full ballet, but I knew she would love seeing the dancers in action. Plus, the event would give me a chance to get a sneak peek at the Hartt School Community Division Dance Department’s Nutcracker Performance which runs next weekend.
The event was charming.
It was held at the community center in their main auditorium. Everyone was treated to ice cream and hot chocolate plus there were a few crafts for the children. Then the performance began and the Dance Chair of the Hartt School gave an overview of the school and the story of The Nutcracker.
The Sugar Plum Fairy even made an early appearance to guide the children in some ballet basics. Then the performance began and the dancers did a few scenes from the Nutcracker.
Following the performance, the children got a chance to meet the dancers and get their autographs. What fun!
Are you interested in attending The Nutcracker? Seats are still available for the Hartt School Community Division’s performance and the details are below. But if you have a ballet lover who isn’t quite ready for the full show, the school still has a few events around town including one this Thursday at the Holiday Stroll in West Hartford and this Saturday at the Wadsworth Athenaeum.
