Hi everyone! Shawna and I were thrilled to have a chance to return to NBC Connecticut on Monday and share a few highlights from our recent Summer Bucket List post. We don’t have a video to share with you quite yet, but as soon as one is available, we will get it on the site. In the meantime, here is a selfie we took while waiting to get on air.
We had so much fun chatting with Kerri-Lee Mayland about the blog and our ideas for summer fun! In case you didn’t get a chance to watch or you did get a chance to watch but wanted a quick reference for some of the places we mentioned, we’ve got a cheat sheet for you below.
The segment was only a few minutes long and it was tough to pick just a couple of places to discuss from the 50 destinations included in that post, but we found some great ones to share.
First up was Rose’s Berry Farm which is located in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Shawna mentioned that picking season has started and that strawberries are currently available (with blueberries, raspberries, peaches, and apples coming right around the corner). We also discussed the fact that not only can you enjoy fruit picking at Rose’s, but they also have a wonderful, family friendly breakfast held ever Sunday morning during the summer months.
Our next topic of discussion was places to cool off in the summer and especially spots open in the morning (for those of us with afternoon nappers!) Now my go-to destination is the spray pad at Fernridge Park in West Hartford, but, I also mentioned that there are two other spray pad destinations in the town at both Kennedy Park and Wolcott Park. The spray pads are open every day from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Then Shawna discussed two wonderful parks located in our state, Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill and Wickham Park in Manchester.
Now, I just visited Dinosaur State Park for the first time last weekend (Shawna has been there a few times) and my family and I had so much fun on our outing, that I was extra excited that we would be sharing this destination with the NBC CT audience. It is a FREE outing if you are there just to check out the trails (Shawna recommends taking the red trail if you have a stroller in tow). Or you can pay an admission fee and head inside to see the exhibit area. There are real dinosaur footprints in this place. Real dinosaur footprints! I was impressed.
Then we chatted about Wickham Park and all that it has to offer. Shawna mentioned the park’s multiple playgrounds, aviary, walking trails and nature center. If you haven’t been to this place, it is definitely a must-see Connecticut park.
We had so much fun sharing a few highlights from our Summer Bucket List post with the viewers of NBC Connecticut. Thank you to everyone who watched!
