2017 Post
Hi everyone!
So we’re having one of those days where things are mysteriously not working the way they should be here on the blog. It’s time to call in tech support! (That would be Mandy-haha!)
Tiffany had this great post all ready to go about her recent visit to Mystic Aquarium..but we couldn’t get any of the pictures to upload!
Well, the last thing I wanted to do was stress out a lady who is eight months pregnant 🙂 So I told her not to worry because I had another fun place we could share with readers this week!
At the beginning of the summer, I posted our list of favorite ice cream destinations in Connecticut and asked readers to let us know what new destinations we should add to the list this season. As usual, our readers came through for us with TONS of suggestions (we have THE BEST readers!). But one place in particular kept coming up again and again, and that place was Grassroots in Granby, CT.
A couple weeks ago, we finally had a chance to find out what all the fuss was about!
Grassroots is a pretty tiny place, so I’ll warn you that I didn’t get as many pictures as I usually do for a post. I felt like it might be a little unsettling to point my giant camera at unsuspecting customers who were just trying to enjoy their ice cream-haha! So I tried to use a phone camera instead. Turns out I am significantly worse at taking photos with a phone camera 🙂 But I think you’ll get the picture anyway!
The way readers were talking about this place, I thought it must be some sort of Granby institution. Like a place that had been around for generations. I mean, there was just so. much. love. Turns out it’s quite the opposite, actually. Grassroots only opened a few years ago on July 4th weekend of 2013.
It’s quickly gaining fans though! Perhaps because of its adventurous approach to ice cream.
You see, Grassroots serves dozens of unique, interesting and delicious flavors. But don’t get too attached to them, because they change them up all the time!
Some of the memorable flavors on our visit were:
Caramelized Pear
Salted Caramel (that’s the one I got!)
Peanut Butter Cookie Dough
Chocolate Chip (for the little guy!)
Cardamom Cashew
Chocolate Brownie (that’s what the big guy got!)
Mint Oreo
Coffee Oreo (hubby’s choice!)
But like I said, don’t count on finding any of these flavors there when you visit 🙂
The ice cream was fantastic of course (our readers never steer us wrong!), but even better is this shop’s location right across from this lovely green, perfect for strolling or sitting or just enjoying the outdoors.
Plus, just down the road you’ll find one of our VERY FAVORITE playgrounds:
Mandy wrote about this playground a few years back and I’ve been wanting to check it out ever since. So after ice cream, we headed over to let the kiddos burn off some of that sugar energy.
Granby is a bit of a drive from my house, but it was so worth it for this relaxing afternoon of ice cream treats and playground fun. That’s what I love best about summer. Just taking a drive and exploring someplace new.
And ice cream. Outings are always better with ice cream 🙂
