We first visited the Wood Memorial Library & Museum in South Windsor, CT for their annual Gingerbread House Festival four years ago. Back then my older son was still a preschooler and my little guy was, well, little. A mere four months old in fact.
So when I got the press release about this year’s event, it made me think about Audrey (who now has a preschooler and a new baby!) and I immediately recommended this outing to her as a low-stress way to find some holiday cheer with a newborn in tow 🙂
Turns out, this little festival has come a long way since we first posted about it back in 2013! So it seemed like a good time to share some of the new features. And fortunately, the event runs through Sunday (12/10) so you still have time to check it out this year.
As always, the festival centers on an enticing array of gingerbread creations–from fairy tale houses to replicas of historical buildings. But now, in addition to dozens of meticulously decorated gingerbread houses, the Wood’s popular holiday festival is expanding its offerings with storytimes, author appearances, visits with Santa and Jingles the Elf, and more! You can view the entire schedule of events and activities here. (While the festival is FREE and open to the public, please note that some events require advance registration and a small fee.)
So I wanted to share a few of Audrey’s pics from her first holiday season as a mommy of two, checking out one of our favorite annual events (and YES, she did this outing with the boys solo!).
So if you’re making plans for this weekend, fit in a stop at the Wood Memorial Library & Museum for some family-friendly (and budget-friendly) holiday fun!
For 2017, the 7th Annual Gingerbread House Festival runs from November 24th until December 10th every day except Tuesday & Wednesday. The event is FREE, but some of the activities require a small fee. Before you go, make sure you check out the events schedule here!
