Cut to the chase. Take me to the Momsense.
I am very excited to be back on the blog and writing about a great little ice cream place from my original hometown of Waterford, CT! For our family, ice cream isn’t just something we like to eat, it’s a whole experience and something we love to adventure out for in summer. Through the years we have found lots of really great ice cream throughout CT – and today I want to let you all know about Cowlick’s Creamery. Over the winter my parents moved pretty close by to Cowlick’s. The boys started planning summer bike rides and walks to get ice cream. For everyone else who doesn’t have grandparents within walking distance – Cowlick’s Creamery is conveinantly located right of I-95 and I-395 just over the East Lyme town line in Waterford. It’s a perfect place to stop for an ice cream on your way home from a day at the beach!
So a few weeks ago, on our way home from dinner – we decided to stop in for some ice cream and Cowlicks did not disappoint!
No matter your frozen treat preference, I am confident you will find something to enjoy. Cowlick’s creamery features Hershey’s hard ice cream, soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt, Italian ice, milkshakes, sundaes, slushies, homemade ice cream sandwiches, soft drinks AND doggie ice cream cups for our four-legged friends. 🙂
My boys are pretty predictable (or predictably unpredictable in the case of Rex) when it comes to their ice cream – I don’t think Ace has every ordered anything other than chocolate ice cream on a cone. As for my Rex – he usually likes to get something interesting – so I wasn’t surprised when he ordered Superman ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. I didn’t get to try it myself but I am pretty sure the Superman flavor was Strawberry (red), banana (yellow) and blue moon (blue) ice cream. Rex said it was “the best ice cream ever”! (I have to apologize for not getting a better photo of their ice cream – they were super excited to start eating and by the time I thought to photograph the ice cream… it no longer looked especially appealing! ha)
Now, if Chocolate or Superman aren’t your favorite flavors, let me list off some of the other flavors we saw posted – Salted Caramel Banana Foster, Candy Bar, Raspberry Chip, Cookie Dough, Birthday Cake, Cappuccino Crunch, Oatmeal Cookie, Maple Walnut, Playdough, and LOTS more.
After the boys got their ice cream we sat inside for a few minutes because the boys really wanted to sit in the “Cowlick’s Cuddle Car” aka an old ferris wheel car turned into a booth! LOVE this idea!
We also noticed some other fun stuff inside like large checkers on one table.
We slowly made our way outside and found even more fun stuff to check out in Cowlick’s backyard!
Their outdoor space really is a parent’s dream – a paved area with picnic tables and outdoor furniture overlooking a HUGE grassy area with yard games, a boat to enjoy your ice cream in and just overall tons of space to let them run around and be kids! When we first got outside the boys were a little disappointed to find another family enjoying their ice cream in the famous Cowlick’s boat. Luckily they were just about finishing up and as soon as they got out of the boat, the boys couldn’t have gotten over there quickly enough. ha! I don’t know what makes it so fun, but it really is more fun to eat ice cream in fun places like a boat or the Cuddle Car!
It didn’t take long for them to finish their ice cream and ask if they could go run around in the grass. I was more than happy to grab a seat and relax while they ran around, laughing and playing. I was thinking this would be a really awesome place to meet up with friends – us parents can sit and chat while still keeping an eye on our kids having some good ol’ fashion fun! AND – Rumor has it that most Saturdays and Sundays there is a bounce house out in the backyard area for the kids to use for free!
Cowlick’s has definitely made its way to the top of my boys’ favorite ice cream spots! And it’s not such a bad place to be as the sun sets either!
