‘Twas the night before holiday break and all through the state,
Not a parent was sleeping—they were up way too late!
Fretting and stressing about the loooong week to come,
And how they could make this vacation more fun.
When they saw in their inbox some lucky news for them!
A post on a blog called OAAM.
With tons of ideas for a week filled will bliss.
Family-friendly outings they just couldn’t miss!
Let’s start with a magical North Pole stop.
Or see Lake Compounce covered in lights from bottom to top!
Watch a laser light show on a planetarium dome,
Ride a train through the zoo to Santa’s home.
See those holiday lights all aglow in Goodwin Park,
Catch a scuba-diving Santa swimming with a shark!
Silver Lights by the thousands below Craig Castle Tower,
Or Yankee Candle Village where it snows 15 times every hour!
You could ride on a trolley though the Tunnel of Lights,
Stroll past gingerbread marvels and take in the sights.
Check out the new playground in Bushnell park,
Then glide ‘round the ice rink until after dark!
You might watch tiny trains as they zoom round and round,
Or marvel at dinosaur footprints on the ground.
For chilly winter days there is lots of indoor fun,
Jumping, bouncing, climbing—something for everyone!
Children’s museums are another sure bet,
Or library play areas for the preschool set.
A chance to relax while kids play might be nice.
Or a day trip adventure to a LEGO paradise.
Got an antsy crew? You can let them climb walls!
Or bundle them up and admire the falls.
These drop-in craft sessions could come in handy.
Or try decorating your own chocolate candy.
How about an arcade with prizes galore?
Or a ropes course where high up in the rafters you’ll soar?
Next off to explore the world of aviation.
Before climbing aboard for a carousel rotation.
Sample the milk bar (try it steamed!) at The Farmer’s Cow Calfe.
Then celebrate New Year’s Eve (the family-friendly way).
And if nothing on this list seems to catch your attention,
We’ve got hundreds more outings to share, we should mention.
Our wish for OAAM readers: a week of fun (and no pouting!)
Happy holidays to all, and to all a great outing!
Thanks to all our Out and About Mom readers for making 2019 such a fun year of new discoveries. As always, we could not do this without you! We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year.
LOOKING FORWARD TO “SCOUTING YOUR OUTING” IN 2020!
