On Saturday, February 1, 2020, libraries all across Connecticut will be celebrating the 9th annual Take Your Child to the Library Day!
Since we are HUGE fans of the amazing libraries located in (and around) our state, we absolutely love promoting this event and all of our great libraries too. BUT this year — we want YOUR help!
As you will see below, we’ve been to quite a few libraries in Connecticut, but there are so many more we want to see and share with the OAAM readers. But the reality is, there is no way we can cover all of these amazing, FREE, fun destinations ourselves. That is where we are hoping you will come in.
If there is a library you love, even if we have already been there, will you share it with us? The information you share may be featured in an upcoming Out and About Mom post!
To share all of the details (including pictures if you can take some!) please just fill out this form. Once your information is received, we are going to work to create posts about all of the places you’ve shared.
Or if you are already posting pictures of a library outing on social media, tag us. We would love pictures of your library adventures!
As I mentioned before, libraries will be offering special activities to celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day. The official day is February 1, 2020, but libraries will be celebrating throughout the week. If you want to know what your favorite library is planning, be sure to check the events page on their website.
We also found information on a few activities already planned at libraries throughout the state including:
- The Morris Public Library will be celebrating the National Take Your Child to the Library Day on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. They will offer a Story and Music Time event, ages 0-4 (10 AM), library day book displays, and drop-in craft activities.
- The Pequot Library in Southport, Connecticut will offer an opportunity to visit the Children’s Library and enjoy fun activities designed to highlight their offerings and encourage children to explore the collection, get their library cards, and read! The event is free and open to the public.
- Killingsworth Library will be offering a special event where Kim Larkin of Klassic Kreations will be there to help families “make and take” chocolate creations, from 11:00 am – noon. Registration is required.
- The Farmington Library will be hosting an event on February 2nd and registration is required. — Come celebrate Take Your Child to the Library with an amazing juggling and yo-yo show. There will even be a glow-in-the-ark LED surprise!
- The Wethersfield Library will also be hosting a yoyo event. — The Yo-Yo Guy, presented by 4-time Guinness World Record holder John Higby, is an interactive performance with yo-yos, a unicycle, and a giant yo-yo that John walks on! Registration is required.
- Russell Library in Middletown will celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day with a fancy fairy party. — We’ll make fairy wand pens, play games with the Russell Library Fairies, and also write a fairy poem with our special guest, Middletown’s Poet Laureate, Cheryl Anne Hale! For kindergarten – 6th grade (ages 5 – 12). Drop-in; no registration required, but supplies and space are limited to the first 40 friends who arrive.
So get out there and explore a Connecticut library. Share your adventures with us. And make plans for Take Your Child to the Library Day on February 1st!
