Summer and ice cream. They just go together, right? Well in the name of this classic coupling, each summer we try to add a few new destinations to our ever-growing list of CT sweet spots (that we have personally been to and blogged about, of course). Yeah, we know. Tough job, right? 😉
This year, when I posted our current list on our Facebook page and asked for new recommendations, I got dozens of replies! It was so hard to decide where to go first (again, such a tough job–ha!).
But seeing as we happen to be in the middle of the pandemic summer of 2020, I thought I’d go for a place that appeared to have both delicious homemade ice cream AND had a large (socially distanced) outdoor eating area. The winner? Tall Man’s Ice Cream in Cromwell!
Tall Man’s Ice Cream is conveniently located on Main Street in Cromwell, just a short ways over the Rocky Hill town line.
As such, it’s in close proximity to some of our other favorite adventures:
Like Watrous Park:
And The First Tee (located at TPC River Highlands):
But today, we were just in search of a little relief from another stir crazy weekend at home when we piled into the car and headed south to Tall Man’s Ice Cream.
I’m not certain if there is normally indoor seating too, but right now (not surprisingly) all of the action seemed to be happening at an outdoor window on the side of the building.
As you can see, there is an extensive menu! And also, it is currently CASH ONLY (you’ve been warned!).
We headed back behind the building to their spacious outdoor seating area.
The ice cream was delicious. And afterwards we let the kids run around the large yard area (note that the gazebo is not currently open for general public use).
There’s also a corn hole set on the far side of the seating area.
Scoops and smiles. Sometimes that’s all you need. This summer especially, I’m so thankful for these simple moments of family togetherness.
Keep those recommendations coming!

Their Facebook page says 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM, but a sign on their window said 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM, so perhaps their hours are seasonal.
