January was a rough month for many of us, so I was glad to see that calendar page flip over to the February! There is still plenty of time left to enjoy those wintertime activities, and we thought today it would be fun to to take a walk down memory lane and remember some of our favorite winter spots.
Please be advised that some of these posts are several years old (and many pre-Covid!), and while they will likely still give you a good idea of what to expect from each destination, we strongly encourage you to check out each venue’s website for the most current information.
Snow Tubing at Powder Ridge Park
The best way to make peace with winter weather? Enjoy it! Hop aboard a snow tube at Powder Ridge Park in Middlefield, CT for an exhilarating outing the whole family can participate in.
Ice skating at Veterans Memorial Ice Rink
Beginners and experienced skaters alike will enjoy a turn around this massive indoor ice skating rink located in West Hartford, CT. With skate rentals available onsite, you just show up and skate!
With their programs for preschoolers, Ski Sundown in New Hartford, CT offers ski action for the whole family. Best of all, it’s only about 20 miles from Hartford so you can easily plan a ski day without a massive roadtrip!
Heated Tees at Chris Cote’s Golf Range
Who says you can’t enjoy your favorite spring and summer activities even when the temperatures dip? At Chris Cote’s Golf Range in Southington you can practice your golf swing on the covered and heated tees even in winter.
When the weather is really frightful, take a trip to the enormous It Adventure indoor ropes course in New Haven, CT. It’s definitely bigger than any outdoor playground you’ll find around here!
Central Rock Gym in Glastonbury is perfect for those house-bound winter moments when everyone seems to be climbing the walls. Take the family to this indoor climbing gym where they can actually climb them.
The best way to beat the winter blues? Put on your bathing suit and channel summer! No need to travel far, you can enjoy the indoor water park (and so much more) at Great Wolf Lodge resort in Fitchburg, MA.
