Great news! Once again, from July 1st through September 5th, Connecticut children age 18 and under plus one accompanying Connecticut resident adult can visit participating museums FREE of charge through the Connecticut Summer at the Museum program. This program is made possible through an investment from the federal COVID-19 recovery funding Connecticut is receiving from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Program participants include ever-popular venues such as the Connecticut Science Center, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Mystic Aquarium, and Mystic Seaport Museum, among dozens of others. You can find the complete list of participating museums here (more than 100 in all!).
Each venue may have its own set of requirements for taking advantage of this opportunity, so make sure you check each museum for online advance ticketing and reservations, as they may be required.
This is a great opportunity to visit a new-to-you museum– like the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center in Mashantucket or the Connecticut River Museum in Essex. You could check out the Connecticut Trolley Museum in East Windsor or the Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston. And don’t forget about the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol and the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks! These are just a few of our favorite finds.
Over the years, we have visited many of the destinations on this list. You can browse our posts HERE (children’s museums) and HERE (all other museums). Although offerings and exhibits change often, you can still use these posts to get a good venue preview (all of that logistical stuff we love!).
From art to history, zoos to aquariums, farms to trolleys to dinosaurs and more, we hope you enjoy exploring our wonderful CT museums this summer! We have had a lot of fun at these destinations over the years. We know your family will love them too!
