Back in 2015 we started our list of favorite ice cream destinations in (and around) CT, and every year we like to add one or two new ones (or more if we’re lucky!) based on our readers’ recommendations. Well, one ice cream place that kept popping up in the suggestions was Scoops & Sprinkles in Rocky Hill, CT. And I’m pleased to say that we finally had an opportunity to discover why so many OAAM readers love this local sweet spot 🙂
Although we were very familiar with the area, having driven this way dozens of times shuttling the kiddos to and from golf at The First Tee in Cromwell, this is one of those blink and you’ll miss it kind of locations. Mainly because if you’re just checking for road signs, you’re going to see the giant “Subway” sign long before you notice the smaller Scoops & Sprinkles sign beneath it.
So despite the fact that the ice cream shop is actually right there in the front of the building, we just blew right by it on the first pass (of course, now you won’t make that same mistake! You’re welcome 🙂 )
If you’re in a hurry, you can order from the outside take-out window.
Inside, we could see why so many readers adore this little ice cream parlor. Treats, treats and more treats! And that’s in addition to the ice cream 😉
One of the things that makes this shop so special is the amazing variety of ice cream creations–from colossal cakes and mega shakes to creative sundaes and candy-coated cones. Check out their Instagram for a sneak peek.
There’s a fun jukebox in the corner that really works!
Outside, there’s a spacious patio with umbrella tables.
I’m so glad we finally had the chance to indulge in some scoops and sprinkles (not to mention some monster waffle cones!). Something tells me this new-to-us destination is likely to become a family favorite.
We couldn’t agree more 🙂

Looks delicious! I am quite impressed with the number of ice cream shops you guys have visited by now. With all that practice you must be ice cream experts by now! As for recommendations, I don’t have any for CT, but a great MA ice cream shop is Hodgie’s Ice Cream in Amesbury. If you ever go there a 1/4 kiddie is equal to or even more than a large at regular ice cream shops, so the flavors are great and the portions are huge!
