Did you know that Six Flags New England is just about a 30-minute drive from Hartford??? That is so much closer than I imagined when we took off on our family adventure there back in April. I had barely broken into the silly road trip games when we pulled into the parking lot! I don’t know what I had been expecting, because I knew that it is located in Agawam, MA (also home to my favorite spray park of all time), which is just over the Massachusetts boarder. But anyway, a nice surprise to start off the trip!
I am not sure if this was my first visit to Six Flags New England (it’s entirely possibly I went there in my teen years, but as the decades go by the edges of those memories continue to get fuzzier and fuzzier), but it was definitely my first visit there with my kids!
My boys are now 12 and 9, and officially obsessed with roller coasters since our Disney trip back in January where they went on every. single. one. We have loved visiting smaller amusement parks over the years (and even some big ones) but I knew they were ready for the real deal. I also have a 5-year-old, who loves the idea of riding rollercoasters, but thankfully doesn’t meet the height requirement for most because when she does insist on getting on one there’s a 50/50 chance the ride will end in tears. (I don’t blame her, by the way, I have never been much of a coaster fan myself). So I also needed a destination that would have plenty of pint-sized excitement. When planning outings with kids of multiple ages, finding fun for the whole family is the name of the game!
So anyway, a short half hour ride later we pulled into the Six Flags New England parking lot ready for our latest adventure.
Our first stop was lunch (priorities).
After lunch, we headed off to check out the different areas of the park.
The water park was not open when we were there (still too chilly back in April!), but you can check out some details on that here and here.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much there is for small kids to enjoy here: A dozen kiddie rides, a carousel, carnival games, treats, roaming characters and more! Because of course Six Flags has always been known for its colossal coasters, I had always imagined it as a better fit for tweens & teens. But overall, this was a great destination for our family with kids ranging in age from 5-12. It had plenty of excitement for all of them–and that was without even setting foot in the massive waterpark! We’ll be back 🙂
Hope you get a chance to enjoy this quintessential summer fun activity with your family!
