It had been years since our first visit to Sonny’s Place in Somers, CT. Back then, we had no idea that in just a few short weeks our family of 4 would become a family of 5 🙂
Six years later (and now with 3 kids ranging in age from 6-13 in tow), we figured it was high time to plan another visit and check out all the new attractions this family-friendly destination now offers.
And new offerings abound! Since 2017 when we last visited, they have added a ginormous outdoor playscape, a gorgeous carousel, and there is still contruction going on for bumper boats and a what appears to be a second mini golf course.
Our original 2017 post still gives a nice general overview of this destination, so for this post I’ll just show you what you came for! Lots of pics of the new attractions 🙂
First up, perhaps the most exciting addition to Sonny’s Place is Sonny’s Playland. This four-story, full enclosed playscape filled with obstacle courses and fun activities will keep kiddos occupied for hours. Literally hours. True story.
The playscape was definitely a huge hit with my 6-year-old, but kids older and younger seemed to be having a blast in there too! The was even a separate toddler area. At the time of our visit, the only restriction on entry was height. So if your kiddo is under 54″ tall, they’re in! (And yes, taller adults ages 16+ may accompany a small child inside if needed.)
Another transformative addition to this already action-packed entertainment center, is the beautiful historic (nearly 100 years old!) carousel housed in this lovely pavilion.
Speaking of the arcade, that area looks a little different too. It appears that the mini bowling alley has been removed to make way for more games, virtual reality and possibly a new snack bar (I can’t remember if that was there before or not).
Sonny’s still has its awesome prize counter, where you can get some pretty fun prizes for not that many tickets. Thumbs up for that!
This area looked a little different too. I can’t quite remember if all the side activities were here in 2017, but the boys enjoyed this crazy spinning Gyroscope and also the Soaring Eagle Zip Ride.
Of course we had to sample the old favorites too. Go Karts are still a HUGE draw for my boys, even 6 years later. I couldn’t resist these side-by-sides: 2017 vs. 2023!
Turns out, six years wasn’t even enough time between visits to document ALL the changes to Sonny’s Place. There are STILL new attractions being added.
You can get an idea from this map where the new activities are located on the property:
One of the things I really appreciate about Sonny’s Place is their à la carte pricing style. That means I can bring my three kids, with their diverse interests, and only pay for the activities (and frequency of those activities) that each one actually wants to do.
And of course, Sonny’s has lots of food options as well.
It says a lot about a place when you can visit with a 4 & 7 year old and have a ball, and then come back six years later with 6, 10 & 13 year olds and still have just as much fun (maybe even more!). Sonny’s Place has certainly done a great job expanding their offerings over the years to cover a wide range of ages and interests. You can also check out their calendar for a variety of concerts and special seasonal events!
I hope you get a chance to enjoy this unique destination with your family this season 🙂
