My family has made a hobby of trying out new-to-us ice cream shops in (and around) CT. We’ve been to dozens of them. (Check out this post if you don’t believe me!) But thanks to our wonderful Out and About Mom readers, there is always a new one to try! And today I’m going to give you the scoop on New Britain’s best kept secret: Frisbie’s Dairy Barn. (Although, I’ve come to learn they actually have several locations throughout CT, MA and RI–New Britain is the original though! And it’s where the ice cream is made.)
As my husband likes to say, if it’s got the words “dairy barn” in the title, it’s got to be good. And this charming ice cream parlor did not disappoint!
I love the ice cream flavors named after CT towns and destinations. Adorable.
And the ice cream is PHENOMENAL. I mean, this from a girl who has been to two dozen other ice cream places in our state! You can trust me when I tell you this is one of my favorites. I don’t know what they do differently with their ice cream making process, but it is so creamy and light. The word fluffy comes to mind. Can ice cream be fluffy?? Anyway, it’s delicious and totally worth the calorie splurge. I had the Southington Salted Caramel with Pecans. YUM.
They also have several vegan options, which is wonderful. I counted three on the menu when we were there.
And these fall specials sound scrumptious. How to choose?!
The kids definitely approved.
And we picked up some of this local fudge for later 🙂
There’s an outdoor seating area with an order window as well (for warmer months).
Personally, I think ice cream can be enjoyed year ’round, but if you’re looking for one more place to indulge in a tasty frozen treat before winter sets in, make this your destination! One bite and you will probably decide ice cream in the winter sounds delicious after all 😉
