Last weekend, my younger son (age 10) participated in a Little League Baseball tournament in East Hampton. Little did I know when I headed out there for the game that I would also be getting a great new blog post out of this experience!
This gorgeous playground is located on the campus of the Memorial School at 20 Smith Street in East Hampton. It was completed back in 2019, but it still looks brand new!
Follow the sign toward Memorial School.
Memorial School Building. The playground is past the school parking lot on your right.
There is some parking back here just beside the playground.
Just look at this! (Insert heart-eyes emoji here.)
The playground is partially fenced. One boundary is open to the fields and another backs up to the trees. It’s pretty good coverage to avoid a kiddo running out into the parking lot though, and definitely makes things more manageable.
The playscape is like one part tree house, one part castle, one part pirate ship.
There is also a smaller playscape for the toddler crowd.
This is kind of neat. The park features a “StoryWalk” around the perimeter of the playground. Each podium has a page spread from a storybook so you can walk from one to the next and read the whole story. The website indicates that the story will be changed out from time to time.
There is a real restroom located in this building. (Also note the porta-potty, perhaps for times when the bathrooms are not available).
If you happen to be there during a baseball event, you can take advantage of the snack bar! They even take Venmo so no worries about cash ๐
I also noticed that on our way to the park we passed one of our absolute favorite places for an outdoor meal or treat, Jessica’s Garden in Marlborough. So a stop there would make a great addition to the playground visit (and get the lobster roll; seriously, it’s one of the best we’ve ever found on all of our OAAM adventures!).
Also, right down the street from the park is an entrance to the Airline Trail. Another great option for extending this outing! We haven’t explored this particular section, but we did once do a blog post about the portion in Hebron.
Sometimes I lament that now that we have older kids with more activities and a busier schedule, we don’t get to go out and explore like we used to do when they were small (and we had to fill the hours between breakfast and nap time somehow LOL). But in this case, I never would have known about this playground hot spot (and a few others I’ll tell you about soon!) had it not been for a busy summer of baseball. Which just proves that even after a decade of blogging about things to do with kids in this state, CT can still surprise me ๐

Hours:
We visited this playground during the summer, when school was not in session. I searched but could not find any information on when the playground is open to the public during the school year, so I cannot say if it is available during school days/hours or not. If anyone knows the answer to this, please please please leave a comment on this post with that info!

Hi Shawna,
To the best of my knowledge, this playground is completely separate from the school – they have their own play area that’s fenced in around the back.
So, it should be open year-round. I know I’ve been there with my kiddos in the heart of winter and the springtime when school was open.
Thanks!
